Polini are a leading Italian tuning house and when the paramotor scene heard that they were developing an engine for us, everyone got very excited indeed. The Thor is the result of Polini’s R&D programme and a fine product it is. It is technically a long stoke motor as its piston stroke is slightly longer than its cylinder diameter which makes it quite unusual in the paramotor world. Polini used this idea to maximise torque as they identified that this characteristic was often overlooked and just as important as just horse power.
The build quality of this engine is quite exquisite and in the Parajet Macro frame produces a reliable and ample 55kg of static thrust. The Thor also has extremely good fuel consumption and features a wet centrifugal clutch in oil bath which came straight from Polini’s motorcycling background. The reduction drive is designed to be lightweight and the engine has a simple recoil pull start helping to reduce the weight further. Combined with the excellent light yet strong Parajet airframe, we believe this is close to a perfect product which is suitable for the weekend pilot to the comp folk looking for trophy’s.
The Volution is still fitted with bespoke injection mounted components, aerofoil section aluminium tubing for low drag, 2 Polini wooden propeller and the whole unit breaks down to be highly portable enabling you to transport it in almost any car. Parajet has done an amazing job over the last few years combining engineering craftsmanship with the ultimate in beautiful aesthetic design which makes them stand out like a beacon compared to so many almost identical machines on the market.
The airframe provides accurate weight shift piloting with excellent handling characteristics. Parajet has done a lot of work to ensure that the airframe has the highest strength and rigidity to weight ratio possible by using high tension aluminium and very wide profile chassis uprights. This has resulted in an extremely strong airframe that can withstand mishaps that a lot of competitors can only dream about.
